Spas and medicinal baths have been part of medical treatment for centuries and have played an important role in spa culture. Gyrenbad was one of six spas operating around the Bachtel. Its numerous guests included important personalities such as Heinrich Bullinger, the successor of Ulrich Zwingli.

In 1996, the Hotel Gyrenbad was named “Historical Hotel of the Year” by ICOMOS (International Council of Monuments and Sites). The lovingly renovated complex is still reminiscent of the time of grand spas
